Great gifts for girls! That’s right, Prima Princessa is THE perfect Gift for girls!
The Mommy Blog
Thanks so much to the MommyBlog for this terrific review of our new DVD, which is a great gift for girls, especially any one aspiring to be a ballerina or a princess! -Prima Princessa-
Now for the review:
"I’ve been meaning to post about a DVD a reader sent to Daphne, knowing how much she likes princesses and…princesses. It’s called Prima Princessa Presents Swan Lake, and is “a hip, fun forty minute show for kids…Cool new twist on learning ballet, featuring the Paris Opera Ballet and students from the American School of Ballet.”
You know how educational/artsy videos usually fall into one of three categories? Too silly and not engaging enough to hold attention for the amount of time you need to shower or make dinner; too advanced for them to grasp the fun and purpose; and just right, but so short you have to spend all your time rewinding (or skipping the self-promotion that seems to take up half the tape).
Prima Princessa cleverly navigates each of these issues and offers short bursts of actual ballet lessons, scenes from the Paris Opera’s performance of Swan Lake, and adorable clips of little girls running around in tutus, imitating the dancers. Very, very cute.
Here’s the interesting part: I thought Daphne would be all over the little girls and not as much into the professional performance. Boy, was I wrong. (Well, I was right about one thing: she had to run for her ballet outfit so she could be properly attired while watching.)
For starters, she would not sit down to watch it. She stood in the middle of the living room floor, right in front of the TV, and studied that video to get all the moves down. She liked the little girls, enjoyed the classes, but was absolutely riveted by the ballet performance. Several times in a row, which was a score for me, because that meant 120 minutes of rapt enjoyment of educational entertainment while I scraped Lord knows what off the kitchen floors. Actually, that’s not true. I don’t scrape the floors because I know exactly what’s on them.
So I’ve got to agree with Cool Mom Picks that Prima Princessa is “Swan Lake on a Budget.” Daphne has never expressed such interest in ballet before, and is now dying to go see a real performance. This is the ticket to getting your little ones to look forward to and sit still during The Nutcracker, or maybe even expanding their tastes so you can go to the ballet outside of the Christmas season.
One more thing to put on the list for Things To Do With Redeeming Social Value That Are Actually Fun!

A Wrestling Addicted Mommy
Thanks so much for this fabulous review and for recommending our DVD as a great gift for girls! We were so pleased that this wrestling addicted mom has such a girly girl tutu loving daughter!! -Prima Princessa-
"Princess this, princess that...
Princess, Princess, Princess. That's what I hear about all day in my house. Both the girls are pretty convinced that they're both princesses. I say they're more of the drama queen type, but whatever gets them through the day and keeps them happy I'm all about.
We recently received a dvd in the mail called Prima Princessa presents Swan Lake. As soon as I opened up the envelope, the girls shrieked with joy. "A PRINCESS BALLERINA MOVIE!!!" they both cried. The joy in their eyes was just too good to be true. So right away we popped in the DVD for the girls to watch.
Prima Princess presents Swan Lake debuted in January 2008. The producers Mary Kate Mellow and Stephanie Troeller teamed up as 2 stay-at-home moms to produce this show inspired by their children's love of dance. The dvd brings a hip new twist on learning about ballet. My girls right now are loving dance and love to pretend that they're ballarina's so this video was just perfect for us. The dvd features the Paris Opera Ballet and students from the School of American Ballet at Lincoln Center, and Official Academy of New York City Ballet.
The dvd is 40 minutes long and kept the girls attention for the entire time, I did however have to stay out of their way as the dancing was a little out of control (*giggle*), but they were having such a blast. Prima Princessa is an animated fairy ballerina who magically transports a group of little girls to go see the Paris Opera Ballet perform Swan Lake. Between acts the children return home to learn simple ballet steps (which the girls followed along with quite well), the steps are shown by using colorful montages of toys, animals, children and young dancers.
This is a new favorite in our house, I can't count how many times the girls ask for the ballerina dvd to be put in. Prima Princessa presents Swan Lake can be purchased on Amazon.com, as well as on their website http://www.primaprincessa.com/. You can also find clips and coloring pages for you to print out for your ballerina's on their website as well.
All we need now is a pair of tutu's and the girls will be good to go!!! Thanks Prima Princessa for giving my girls something to look forward to doing and watching on a rainy day."

"Prima Princessa Presents Swan Lake is a 40-minute DVD for children 3-7, with an animated fairy ballerina who magically transports a group of little girls to see the world famous Paris Opera Ballet perform Swan Lake. The show is cleverly abbreviated for kids and narrated beautifully by an adorable cartoon ballerina. Between acts, the children return home to learn simple ballet steps, which are playfully shown mixed into colorful montages of toys, animals, children and young dancers from the School of American Ballet, the official academy of the New York City Ballet.
This enchanting fairytale was created by Mary Kate Mellow and Stephanie Troeller, two brilliant stay-at-home moms from New Jersey and would be a perfect gift for girls this holiday.
My kids loved it - yours will too!

"Do you have a little ballerina at your house? Are you looking for the perfect gift for girls or a stocking stuffer for your princess? Look no further! You’ve found it!
Prima Princessa Presents Swan Lake is a DVD for young ballerinas! It’s fun, instructional, and entertaining at the same time!
Prima Princessa, an animated fairy ballerina, narrates the DVD, taking the ballerina viewers to a production of Swan Lake, performed beautifully by the Paris Opera Ballet. In between acts, viewers are shown how to do different ballet steps, such as a pirouette, through a montage of young ballerinas, toys, and students from the School of American Ballet.
Created by two stay-at-home moms, who wanted to encourage their children’s love of dance, as well as promote high-quality educational programming for young children.
Prima Princessa Presents Swan Lake does exactly that. In fact this DVD has been awarded the Dove “Family-Approved” seal for family-friendly viewing from the Dove Foundation.
The Low-Down on Prima Princessa Presents Swan Lake
The Good:
The DVD is fun to watch…even for an adult.
Prima Princessa does a good job of narrating Swan Lake for young viewers, who might have trouble interpreting dance movements.
Dance steps are taught in an entertaining fashion.
The ballet is truly beautiful.
The segments are broken up in such a way that young viewers won’t get bored.
The Bad:
There’s no bad. Really.
My Overall Opinion:
Prima Princessa Presents Swan Lake is a great buy for the young ballerina, the perfect gift for girls. Though the 40 minute DVD is geared toward preschool aged girls, I think even young grade school girls would enjoy the beauty of watching the Paris Opera Ballet perform Swan Lake. If my daughter were younger and into ballet, I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase this DVD for her. That’s how much I liked it! Unlike so much of the over-commercialized DVDs out there today, this one is high quality, instructional, and still lots of fun! This one gets an A++!
Be sure to visit the Prima Princessa website for more information and Prima Princessa coloring pages!"

"Prima Princessa Presents Swan Lake: Get Your Tot Twirling!"
"If you have a pre-schooler who loves to don a tutu and practice pirouettes then you will love the Prima Princessa Presents Swan Lake DVD. This 40-minute DVD features a performance of Swan Lake by the Paris Opera Ballet and instruction from students from the School of American Ballet at Lincoln Center, Offical Academy of New York City Ballet along with narration by an animated fairy ballerina named Prima Princessa. In between acts of Swan Lake, the children return home to learn simple ballet steps.
I love that this DVD gets my daughter up and dancing (no couch ballerina in our house!) and that she practices the steps (and remembers the names of them for the most part) throughout the day. The story of Swan Lake is also great for her because it teaches her sequence (she can recount it) which is a really important skill for pre-schoolers to learn. I also think the quality of this DVD is great despite it being made by two moms with no film-making experience -- pretty impressive! This DVD is a great introduction to a beautiful dance form."

"Prima Princessa presents Swan Lake"

"As a little girl, I can remember prancing around the house like a ballerina or pretending to ice skate on the frozen puddle in front of my house. My best friend and I always wanted to be ballerinas, but never had the discipline. Neither of us ever lost of our love of ballet, so when I was given the opportunity to review the “Prima Princessa Presents Swan Lake” DVD, I was thrilled. Once it arrived in the mail, I called up my friend and we curled up on the couch to watch it together and tried out some of the moves for ourselves.
“Prima Princessa Presents Swan Lake” was produced by two stay-at-home moms, Stephanie Troeller and Mary-Kate Mellow, who were inspired by their children’s love of dance and their desire to see higher quality, culturally enriching programming for young children. And a fine job they did when putting together this fabulous DVD. Prima Princessa, an animated fairy ballerina, transports the group of little ballerinas to see the Paris Opera Ballet perform select segments of Swan Lake. The DVD is split into four acts and between those acts, your princesses are returned home to learn simple ballet steps through a colorful montage of toys, animals, children and young dancers from the School of American Ballet."

Indulge her dance mania with Prima Princessa Presents Swan Lake, a sweet and age-appropriate new ballet DVD for ages 3 to 6. The 40-minute DVD features dancers from the Paris Opera Ballet performing select segments of the classic Swan Lake. "The Arts: Dance Training at Any Age with Prima Princessa"
"Having fond memories of my own years as a "ballerina," I couldn't wait to get my own little girl in a tutu. Coincidentally, the same week that the Prima Princessa DVD arrived, my daughter received a tutu as a gift from a family member, and so naturally we put both on together to prepare for her first ballet lesson. Created by moms and combining the Paris Opera Ballet and Students from School of American Ballet at Lincoln Center, the Prima Princessa DVD is a must for any ballerina in training. My daughter's favorite part was watching the girls pirouette, and mine was watching her attempt to do the same. She was prepared for her first Mommy & Me dance class, and was the Prima Ballerina after practicing up with Prima Princessa!"

"Prima Princessa Ballet DVD"
"You've got to love a DVD that gets your kids up and moving. Fitness is for everyone in the family! I was thrilled to test out the Prima Princessa DVD while on holiday. We didn't bring many toys and sometimes I was required to be inside with my older daughter while the baby napped. So I popped in this DVD to see if my ballet-mad 3 y.o. would dig it. And dig it she did. In fact it was such a hit, I now have most of the choreography to Swam Lake down pat.
Here's how it works. The video begins with a group on young girls (2-6) frolicking in ballet tutus. Then an imaginary ballet fairy appears to explain a bit about what will happen next. Then we segue into clips of the Paris Opera Ballet dancing Swan Lake. It's split in four acts. In between each act, there is more frolicking and a brief ballet tutorial done by students from the School of American Ballet.
My daughter loved each bit: the complete novices in cute dresses, the 'tween students and the glorious adult prima ballerinas in their Swan Lake finery. We cleared the furniture and let her practice all the moves. It was a wonderful way to keep her active and engaged. She excelled at the grande battement, yet the pirouette had her slipping and sliding in fits of giggles. After falling again: "Maybe when I'm big, like 4, I'll be able to do this." You bet. It'll be fun to keep trying."
An Island Review
Review & Giveaway: Prima Princessa DVD
"If you have a little ballerina living in your home, she's going to love this perfect gift for girls!
Prima Princessa Presents Swan Lake takes you on a journey to the Paris Opera Ballet as they dance to the classical Swan Lake Ballet. "In between each act, the children return home, dress up in fun pretty tutus, and learn a simple ballet step. Each step is playfully shown mixed into a colorful montage of toys, animals, birds, children and young dancers from the School of American Ballet."
My daughters enjoyed this interactive DVD and the narration by Prima Princessa helped them understand the story behind Swan Lake. Even I learned a few new things! The transformations between animation to live performances kept this DVD entertaining and was able to hold my girls' attentions longer than most DVDs.
That's always a good thing! *don't judge me - hee hee*
Aimed at pre-school girls, this 40 minute Children’s Ballet DVD may be purchased at Amazon.com ($19.99) or visit the Prima Princessa site today for a great gift for girls!"
Cool Mom Picks
"Swan Lake on a Budget"
"As an avid ballet lover, I've been waiting for the day my daughter was old enough to make it through the Nutcracker. But considering she can't make it through a Disney movie without a snack and at least one dance break, I'm not willing to shell out the dough to take her to an actual performance.
But thanks to Prima Princessa, she can get an almost real live ballet right in our living room. Created entirely by moms Mary Kate Mellow and Stephanie Troeller, Prima Princessa features the world-renowned Paris Opera Ballet performing Swan Lake, with kid-friendly story narration by a cartoon ballerina Between acts, you'll find live action demos of ballet steps performed by School of American Ballet students.
While the ballet snob in me says that a jumping frog doesn't necessarily jete, as the DVD indicates, try telling my daughter that. If you can stop her from dancing around while it's on. -Kristen
Congrats to Marcelle C. Winner of her own dvd, the perfect Cildren’s Ballet DVD and wonderful gift for girls!"
